LECTURE 3
· Archicad is what type of software?
Archicad is architectural BIM CAD software. ArchiCAD is a drawing manager with 2D and 3D drafting, visualization and other functions for architects, designers and planners. It automatically makes 3D model of my 2D drawing
Perspective setting is available and also you can control the light/ direction of the sun
· Studio Max is what type of software?
It is a rendering package that allows you to do extraordinary things. This program is about producing images that look good and awesome.
· Ecotech is what type of software?
It is a 3D database, analyzing a piece of material. It concerns about thermal performances, R-values and lighting.
· What is BIM?
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle. BIM involves representing a design as objects – vague and undefined, generic or product-specific, solid shapes or void-space oriented (like the shape of a room), that carry their geometry, relations and attributes. BIM design tools allow for extracting different views from a building model for drawing production and other uses.
· What is a vector image?
It is a use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygon(s), which are all based on mathematical equations, to represent images in computer graphics. It is a point with a direction & distance and magnitude & equation. It doesn’t break down to pixels. It is a collection of lines
· What is a raster image?
It has pixels, resoluted. Multiple dots. collection of dumb dots. Raster graphics image or bitmap is a data structure representing a generally rectangular grid of pixels, or points of color.
· What can a STL file be used for?
it is widely used for rapid prototyping and computer-aided manufacturing. STL files describe only the surface geometry of a three dimensional object without any representation of color, texture or other common CAD model attributes.
· What matters most in high quality rendering?
Manipulation of light, compositing breakdown (T&S) . Kahn’s Exeter short film generated the whole world digitally : what was real in it? Nothing! It was all rendering! Nothing is real in that film. Light and shadows – blue shadow, yellow light: makes the materials look real. It seems more real because it is mixing the colours of light. It concerns about camera shots/ angels
· Zaha Hadid: extreme perspective
She expended the perspective by asking herself, “what else can we do?” , “How can we extend our boundary?” She uses computer to enable her to produce extreme images (sometimes unrealistic…). you can change the world, push yourself, push your boundary with the advanced computer program. Her program, ZHA, allowed to explore the possibilities of 3D design and it became the system to help them managing their extremely complex projects. This includes capturing original designs with extreme curves and surfaces into the CATIA modeler, building 3D assemblies fit for manufacturing, and managing changes efficiently all the way from idea to delivery.
· Cameron Sinclair: open source
open source (internet – free software for everyone) CAD package for the world. (eg. Google sketchup) He pursued the Architecture for humanity. Open Architecture Network. He describes it as a “gift to the design community” with a simple mission: “to generate design opportunities that will improve living standards for all “by providing an open-source platform through which anyone can view, post, share, and adapt sustainable, humanitarian-based, scalable solutions.
· Toyo Ito : Sendai Mediatheque
sendai mediatheque is a center for activities in the fields of art and film, serving as a public facility to help people freely exchange information with each other through various media and learn how to use that information.
At the beginning, plans called for a multifunctional facility comprised of a library, gallery, visual media center that also contained services to aid the sight-and hearing-impaired.
subsequently, plans changed so that instead of simply being a "mixed-use" facility, it was intended to encompass a larger sphere of functions that would allow the facility to operate as a unified "mediatheque" with common goals to respond to a continuously changing information environment and users' diverse needs.
the "sendai mediatheque will gather, preserve, exhibit, and present various forms of media without being bound to form or type. this public facility for the 21st century will, through various functions and services, be able to support the cultural and educational activities of its users.
